Dear Alumni, Parents, Family, Friends and Fans,
Greetings from Chapel Hill. We hope that your spring is going well as we start to
prepare for another great season of volleyball here at UNC. We should all be enormously
proud of the accomplishments of the UNC Volleyball teams over the years, and recently
the back-to-back-to-back ACC Championships in '99 & '00 & 01, five consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament and a final NCAA RPI ranking of #11 in Division I volleyball. Over the last five years, North Carolina has gone to 5 NCAA tournaments, 3 ACC tournament Titles, and three ACC regular season titles and an outstanding record of 139-35.
Presently, our spring and summer efforts are focused on launching our new 2003-2004
Friends of Carolina Volleyball Membership Campaign. The goal is simple - significantly
increase our Friends membership while we continue to raise funds for our program.
However, we need you to help us spread the word about the Friends of Carolina Volleyball
(FCV). We would like you to send us the names of ten (or more) people who could have
interest in Carolina Volleyball. There are many people who are not only fans of UNC
but our sport as well. This collection of names and addresses could consist of any
family members, parents, grandparents, friends, coaches and even businesses, in your
community or throughout the country. This will also allow us to update our alumni
database with current information. We will then take the opportunity to introduce
Carolina Volleyball and how each one can be a vital part of this successful Top 25,
Division I Volleyball program.
Our goal is to triple our membership for the coming 2003 season in order to reach our
program objectives. The fundraising efforts over the past few years have been helpful
but modest. Now, we are working on an ambitious campaign to help our growing needs and
keep this program at the top of the ACC and nationally competitive. All support to
"Friends of Carolina Volleyball" goes directly to team operations that includes team
travel, home game operations, and equipment needs. Secondly, we are in the process of
raising support for next year with the opportunity for our team to compete on a foreign
tour during June of 2004.
In the coming months you will also be hearing from our athletic department and volleyball
alumni as we all become more involved with the major endowment drive for volleyball and
other UNC sports as part of the "Carolina First" university wide campaign. Very soon
you will receive an official FCV application and we ask you not only join again, but to
also spread the word. Whether you are a player, parent, alumnus, parent of a former
player, friend, or a fan we need your support. We all know how special it is to be a
part of a great institution like UNC and a program such as Carolina Volleyball.
So, take a few minutes and think about your list of friends and email your prospects
to Ashley Powers, Assistant Volleyball Coach at:
jlytle@uncaa.unc.edu or mail them to: Carolina Volleyball, PO Box 2126, Chapel Hill, NC 27515. You can send names in anytime. If you do not have a home listing, you can simply provide an email address.
Our Friends application will also be posted on our website soon at www.tarheelblue.com.
Those who join the FCV by August 1, 2003 have the opportunity to be recognized in the
2003-2004 Carolina Volleyball media guide.
Enclosed we have listed the dates of our fall 2003 events and hope this will allow you
time to plan a visit to campus. Come back and meet our 2003 team as we look to take back the ACC title. We are also planning a special alumni weekend honoring the volleyball teams and players of the '70's and 80's - October 2003. So mark your calendar! Thank you again, for your time and support of Carolina Volleyball.
Sincerely,
JOE SAGULA Jim Lodes Jill Lytle
