KIRAN MISTRY

Kiran Mistry is eager to start his third year as an assistant coach at North Carolina. Mistry joined the Carolina volleyball program after spending four years as an assistant coach at the University of Kansas.

Since coming to Carolina, Mistry has helped the Tar Heels to their best seasons in the school’s history. Coming off an ACC Championship, Mistry hopes to continue helping to build UNC into a nationally ranked volleyball program. Mistry’s primary responsibility is that of the recruiting coordinator. He is, however, involved in all facets of the Carolina program.

A native of Calgary, Alberta,Canada, Mistry started coaching at the high school and club levels in 1986. In 1987 he became an assistant coach at the University of Lethbridge and head coach in 1988. From 1989-91 Mistry was an assistant coach of the varsity men’s team at the University of Calgary, and helped lead it to two conference titles and a third and forth place finish at the Canadian Collegiate National Championships. Starting in 1992, Mistry was hired by the Alberta Volleyball Association as an assistant coach for the under-20 men’s team, which was National Champion in 1992, and runner-up in 1993. During the summer of 1990 and 1991, Mistry worked as a technical assistant with the Canadian World Games Men’s team.

Coach Mistry continues to be active in other areas of the sport. He has been an instructor at volleyball camps and coaching clinics (Level III Instructor) throughout North America, published articles for the American Volleyball Coaches Association, and volunteered on volleyball committees.

Mistry earned an undergraduate degree in Business (University of Lethbridge) in 1989, and a Masters in Sport Management (University of Alberta) in 1996. Kiran’s wife of seven years, Rashmita, recently completed her Ph.D. in Child Development and Family Studies from the University of Texas in Austin. She is currently a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Center for Developmental Science at University of North Carolina.
