ASSISTANT COACH

ASHLEY POWERS

Ashley Powers enters her first years as an assistant coach at North Carolina. Originally from Las Vegas, Powers played at Carolina for Coach Joe Sagula. She competed from 1993 through 1997 and graduated with a B.A. in communications.

While at Carolina, Powers was a four-year letter winner as a defensive specialist and was awarded the UNC Athletic Director’s Scholar Athlete Award in 1994. Powers was also part of the 1996 team that upset defending national champions, Nebraska, at Carmicahel Auditiorium. As a disciple of Coach Sagula, Powers became an assistant volleyball coach at Davidson College. While at Davidson, Powers founded and was head coach of the Davidson Juniors, an Under 16’s Junior Olympic Volleyball Club team.

In 1999, after her stint at Davidson, Powers traveled to Europe and joined the Bring It USA Volleyball Tou. This professional volleyball team of women from across the United States competed in international volleyball. This experience provided the opportunity to extend her stay in Europe. Powers spent four months in Vilsbiburg, Germany training with the Rote Raben, competing against international teams.

At Carolina, Powers will focus her attention on camps, recruiting and on court training as well as many other administrative duties, including the Carolina Volleyball Booster Club. “I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to be a part of the Carolina program, and even more excited about returning as a member of the coaching staff, says Powers. I feel blessed to be surrounded by such wonderful people here at UNC and to work with a program that has grown tremendously.”
