Coach Jennifer Torns Petrie
Jennifer Petrie enters her third season as head coach of the USD women’s Volleyball program. Last season she guided the Toreros to a 14-14 overall mark. In her inaugural head coaching season in 1999, Petrie led USD to a 23-6 record, a second round NCAA appearance, a second place finish in the West Coast Conference and a final national ranking of 24th (AVCA). Petrie is just the third head coach in USD Volleyball history; she replaced 1998 West Coast Conference Co-Coach of the Year, Sue Snyder. Br>

Petrie enters her fifth year at the University of San Diego and her third at the helm of the USD Volleyball program. For the past four years as both an assistant and head coach, she has contributed towards back-to-back West Coast Conference championships (1997, 1998) and three NCAA Tournament second round appearances. During her tenure at Alcala Park, USD has posted a 87-30 record, produced eight all-conference first and second team selections, three All-District VIII performers and a two-time first team All-America selection- Petia Yanchulova.

Petrie brings a wealth of coaching and playing experience to the Toreros. She completed a standout volleyball career at the College of William and Mary, where she was twice named Colonial Athletic Conference Player of the Year (1990-91). The two-time All-Southern Region selection (1990-91) gained national level playing experience in 1990 when she competed on the gold-medal-winning U.S. Olympic Festival North Region Team. Her collegiate coaching career began when she joined the volleyball staff at Indiana State University where she served as top assistant from 1992 to 1993. Petrie then took the top assistant position at North Carolina, Chapel Hill from 1994 to 1997 before joining Sue Snyder’s staff at the University of San Diego for the 1997 campaign.

A native of San Diego, Petrie played for the San Diego Juniors Volleyball Club and graduated from Mt. Carmel High School. In 1992, she graduated from the College of William and Mary with a degree in Art History and completed her Master’s Degree in Sports Administration from North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1997. In May of 2000, Jennifer married Mark Petrie.
